Our hotel may have been isolated and internet deprived, but it had one very important feature: the oonsen! The oonsen is a public bath. They are very loved in Japan. This is the changing room.
You take your shower sitting on a stool before you go into the baths. All the soap needs to be off before you head into the water.
It's a hot springs. The area is volcanic so there is plenty of hot water for indoor and secluded outdoor baths.
