The high school was much more traditional then the elementary or middle school.

The teachers greeted us in the workroom. We introduced ourselves in Japanese wherever we went.

These girls are waiting to play volleyball in P.E.

Boys take Kendo in gym class. I got to practice a bit.

In home ec they were learning to cook a great dinner.

Peace! Lunch time is so open, kids wanted to talk to me and practice a little bit of English. They read and write English better than they speak or understand it.

After observing a calligraphy class I decided to join in! Mine are not quite as good as the other students.


Students wash the schools at every age. There are no custodians. They even do windows!
After school the tea ceremony club treated us to a traditional ceremony.


The principal thanked us for coming and gave us Japanese towels with the high school's name and a quotation about walking on with courage.
