Host Family House

Here are shots of my host family's house. I slept on the floor in a room with tatami mats and a futon mat. This is normal in Japan. Though I was told that some houses have "western" style beds like most of the hotels we stayed in.


This was a view from the window. It was partitioned off, clearly planted to give a natural view for the household.

The refrigerator is a similar size to ours, but the top is fridge, 2 drawers are freezer, and the bottom drawer is for produce.

This is the washing machine and dryer! No switching back and forth, this all in one machine is normal there and was in the wash room.


The washroom, shower/bath, and "toilet" room are all separate.

People in a family take turns soaking in the bath tub each night. It is heated and covered to retain the heat in between people.

Just like the oonsen, you take your "shower" on a stool outside of the bathtub before you soak. There is a drain in the floor.
